Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about starting therapy

I believe that being open and clear from the start is the best way to build a trusting relationship. I have answered the most common questions here regarding my clinical approach, my policies, and the logistics of how we will work together so you can feel confident in your decision to start this process.

I see clients Monday-Saturday, usually between 10 AM and 7 PM (Central Time.) It is important to note that my clients must have made an appointment in advance, and it must be confirmed by our office. The Grow or Headway portals offers the option to book online directly onto my schedule, but it is important to note that the calendars may not sync up to my electronic calendar in real time, so please wait for a confirmation email from us following booking a session with me.

I provide teletherapy for individuals aged 18 and older. I am fully licensed to serve clients in Texas and New York, as well as across the following states and territories:

  • Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana.
  • Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota.
  • Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming.

Important: Due to licensing regulations, you must be physically located within one of these states at the time of your appointment.

Therapy sessions are $250 for 50 minutes. I am currently in-network with Aetna and Blue Cross Blue Shield. For other insurance providers, I use a secure billing system and can provide you with a 'superbill' to submit for out-of-network reimbursement. I also offer a limited number of sliding scale spots for survivors of coercive control or high-demand groups, though these usually have a waitlist.

Currently, I am fully remote and use Zoom to conduct teletherapy appointments. I do not offer in-person visits at this time though this may change in the future.

I believe that therapy should be accessible for all people, so I offer a limited number of sliding scale rates.

**My sliding scale spots are full now. Contact me about the wait list for these spots.

You will receive a comprehensive bio-psycho-social-spiritual assessment combined with continued evaluation followed by a diagnosis and treatment plan. The psychotherapy session uses specialized clinical knowledge and advanced clinical skills in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders, conditions and addictions, including severe mental illness and serious emotional disturbances in adults.

Psychologists are qualified and authorized to use the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V-TR), the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) Codes, and other diagnostic classification systems in assessment, diagnosis, treatment and other practice activities. The use of psychological methods, interventions, and strategies, particularly when based on regular personal interaction, to help a person change behavior, increase happiness, and overcome problems. Psychotherapy aims to improve an individual's well-being and mental health.

Psychiatrists and psychologists are both professionals who specialize in the field of mental health, but they differ in terms of education, training, and practice. Psychiatrists are medical doctors who can prescribe medication, while psychologists hold doctorate degrees (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) but are not medical doctors and cannot prescribe medication. Psychiatrists often focus on medication management for mental health conditions, while psychologists primarily provide therapy and counseling services. Psychologists and therapists may refer patients to a psychiatrist for their medication management, and the two professionals will confer on the patient’s progress if needed.

Yes. Your privacy is protected by law and I maintain strict confidentiality. I will not share your information with anyone without your written permission, except in rare situations where I am legally required to do so, such as if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or suspected abuse of a child or elder.

The No Surprises Act is a federal law designed to protect you from unexpected medical bills. It ensures that you aren't charged hidden fees when receiving care from an out-of-network provider or during an emergency. You have the right to know exactly what your care will cost before it happens.
